Reminders…

  1. Do not log in to any Apple iCloud, Mac Mail or other personalization accounts except Google Drive (Sheets, Docs, etc.) and Gmail. Everyone uses the same Mac user account so please do not customize the user account to your settings which means do NOT add you Google profile settingLogin to gmail and then go to Apps  icon then select Google Drive or a profile could automatically be created for you and the bookmarks may not be available to the next person.

Scholarships

Be sure to check out the Scholarships posts on the Alva Career Center website.  I have also shared a Google Sheet – click here – that you can create a copy of and track scholarships that may apply to you.

NWTC Foundation Scholarship – High school juniors or seniors and adults may apply for the Spring NWTC Foundation Scholarships.  To claim the scholarship, students will be required to show that they are incurring some type of educational expense for either the current semester or next summer or fall.  Students may download the NWTC Foundation Scholarship application –  NWTC Foundation Scholarship Application 2024. Otha Grimes Scholarship – This scholarship is available to adult students who are Oklahoma residents enrolled in a program at a Career and Technology Center. Applicants must submit applications online. Applications must be submitted by February 9, 2024. Adults will need information from Mrs. Williams regarding any financial aid they may receive as well as the cost of tuition and fees. FAFSA – Before you can apply for financial aid at a college or technology center, you must complete a FAFSA application.  Some scholarship applications also require FAFSA to be filled prior to application.  The 2024-2025 FAFSA will be released by December 31, 2023, so make sure you have everything you need to fill it out! Virtual Job Shadow Login Instructions

VirtualJobShadow.com offers engaging career exploration resources and tools all on one user-friendly website.   Staff and students of the Northwest Tech Campus – Alva may access their user accounts at https://www.virtualjobshadow.com/login/AC5760/users/?. Students will use the same username and password as used for WorkKeys assessments. Usernames (except for a few students) will be your FirstnameLastname. Your password will be a six digit number representing your birthdate such as 020503 if you were born on February 5, 2003. If you need assistance with your username and password, please let Mrs. Frascht know.

VJS Assignment   – Which Personality Type Are You? 16Personalities.com  2022 Assignment

Complete the Which Personality Type Are You? 16Personalities.com  Assignment in VirtualJobShadow.com.

  1. Be sure to follow the steps of the assignment in Virtual Job Shadow and have the results of the 16Personalities.com survey sent to your email address so we can refer back to the results later!!
  2. Print your results of the survey that was sent to your email.
  3. Create a PDF file of the results and save in your folder on the desktop.
  4. Upload the PDF file to the shared Google Drive folder I created for you.
  5. Print the results of the VJS assignment after it is submitted and downloaded.

Resume Assignment

The following documents have been added to the Shared Folder I created for you in Google Drive:

  • NWTC Resume Template

You will need to create a resume that includes the following sections:

  • Heading (Name, Address, Phone Number, Email Address)
  • Objective
  • Education – high school, Northwest Tech, and NWOSU if it applies
  • Work Experience – paid or unpaid experience – Include bulleted items describing tasks performed. Start with current or past tense verbs for bulleted items.
  • Organizations and Activities – be sure to include Business Professionals of America because all NWTC Computer and Business and Digital Design students are members and… if you are a member of the NWTC Superintendents Leadership Class be sure to add it.
  • Certifications/Licenses – be sure to include ACT WorkKeys Career Readiness Certificate if you passed all three exams.
  • Honors and Achievements – be sure to include NWTC Perfect attendance for Quarter or NWTC Student of the Quarter
  • Community Service
  • Skills – must list computer skills as well as other applicable skills. Use bulleted items. Start bulleted items with verb.
  • References – must have 3 that are not friends or family… must be teachers, coaches, employers, youth leaders, sponsors, etc.

Examples of computer skills for resumes:

  • Create and edit MS Word and Google Docs
  • Create and edit presentations using MS PowerPoint and Google Slides
  • Use Google Classroom for viewing and submitting assignments
  • Use Google Drive for file storage and sharing

Oklahoma high school students are now held accountable for several Oklahoma ICAP activities before they may graduate.  One of the requirements for Career Center is for students to complete to complete the ICAP Planning Document that I have placed in the Shared Google Drive folder that I have made for you.
  1. After completing the questions in the document,  print the document and place in sheet protectors and put in your  Career Center notebook.
