Personal Financial Literacy


A Personal Financial Literacy course is available to high school students attending Northwest Tech programs but also need to meet that criteria for high school graduation requirements.

Instructional materials from the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education CIMC division will be used for the course.  Class times for the course will be scheduled at the beginning of the semester.

The following topics will be covered during the course:

Unit 1 - Earning and Managing Income

Unit 1: Earning and Managing an Income Objectives:

  • Identify sources and types of income
  • Discuss the long-term financial benefits of getting an education
  • Discuss non-college education alternatives that could improve your financial future
  • Compare needs vs wants
  • Discuss the importance of living within your means
  • List the basic steps in a financial spending plan
  • State guidelines for using a spending plan
  • Summarize methods of managing personal finances
