SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Assistant Plant Manager/Maintenance Superintendent. The Electric & Instrument (E&I) Technician maintains and repairs all electrical and instrumentation control systems within the power plant.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Includes the following; other duties may be assigned. Completes maintenance requests and preventative maintenance on plant instrumentation and electrical systems. Maintains, repairs, installs, and troubleshoots instrumentation and control equipment, including current/pressure transducers, Distributed Control Systems (DCS), PLC systems, pneumatic controls, power supplies communication networking, and transmitters used in flow, pressure, analytical, and level controls. Informs supervisor of needed spare parts and tools to complete job assignment. Calibrates both electronic and pneumatic instruments within design specifications. Tunes control loops within proper parameters to ensure optimum operation. Maintains, repairs, installs, and troubleshoots electrical equipment, up to 18,000 volts including: conduit, wiring, electric motors, switchgear, plant lighting and motor operated valves. Troubleshoots instruments with test equipment. Performs modifications and new installations of electrical & instrument systems. Uses computers to work with plant control systems, plant programmable controllers, maintenance management system, and other computer-based systems. Maintains, troubleshoots, and operates EPA required equipment. Generates reports concerning plant compliance with EPA’s and DEQ’s regulations. Troubleshoots and repairs water well controls using Fisher ROC and FLOBUS controls. Assists with and develops preventive maintenance procedures. Follows safety procedures as required, including lockout/tag out, confined space, arc flash and other safety procedures. Attends on-site and off-site safety and technical training as required.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities and behaviors required of this position.

Education and Experience: Requires completion/graduation from an academically recognized electronic, instrumentation technical or power production school with a minimum two (2) year program and two (2) years of directly related working experience in the field of instrumentation or DCS. Related experience may be substituted for education at the rate of two (2) years of experience for one (1) year of education. Applicant must have experience reading schematics, logic diagrams, electrical drawings, knowledge of pneumatic controls, and electrical equipment. Applicant must possess thorough knowledge in instrumentation applications and controls.

Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to read and understand schematics, logic diagrams, and electrical drawings.

Ability to speak English effectively with other employees.

Math Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, percent and to solve basic equations.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills: Ability to use a personal computer to research and configure controls systems, work in the Maintenance Management System, plant emission system and Microsoft Office software as required.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: This position requires a current driver’s license.

WORK SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS: May require overtime on short notice. May also require travel on short notice and required to work at another WFEC facility if needed. Outage schedules may require working extra-long hours seven days a week during the outage (planned or unscheduled). Carrying a cell phone for after hours and weekend callouts on a rotating basis is required. Incumbent must live within a fifty-mile radius of specified work location.

Requires the use of protective masks and breathing equipment. Crawl thru boiler manholes (15” diameter) to perform internal boiler repairs in tight conditions.
