To qualify, the candidate:

  • Must be a high school student who will earn a diploma from an Oklahoma public high school during the 2024-25 school year.
  • Must have plans to pursue a degree at an accredited Oklahoma college, university or career technology center beginning in the fall of 2025.
  • Must have a minimum 3.0 unweighted high school GPA
  • Preferred – Have a minimum 20 ACT or 1040 SAT score
  • Must plan to major in education
  • Must plan to be an Oklahoma educator

Financial need will also be considered.

Children or grandchildren of OSSBA employees, officers, or board of director members, as well as international students, high school graduates and temporary residents, are ineligible to receive the scholarship.

The successful student will be notified of his or her selection by mid-March. With permission from the district, a representative of the OSSBA Foundation will present the student with the scholarship during the school’s spring award or class day assembly.

This scholarship honors the memory and legacy of Dr. Bob Mooneyham, who began his career as a teacher, coach and guidance counselor, before becoming a school superintendent and college professor. He served as executive director of OSSBA for 25 years – from 1975 to 2000. From the capitol to the classroom, he was a respected and caring professional who made a difference in the lives of students across the state.

Mooneyham, who passed away in 2012, is honored annually during the OSSBA Bob Mooneyham Memorial Golf Tournament. Proceeds from the tournament are used to fund the scholarship in his name. We appreciate the many OSSBA members who support the golf tournament each year.

Thank you for helping us spread the word about this incredible opportunity for students. Resources to promote the scholarship can be downloaded here:

Otha Grimes Scholarship for Adults – Due 2.10.25  for Mrs. Williams

This scholarship is available to adult students who are Oklahoma residents enrolled in a program at a Career and Technology Center. Applicants must submit applications online.

  • Amount: Varies
  • Deadline: Each technology center district may impose its own deadline for its respective students. Students at the NWTC Alva Campus must have applications completed by February 10, 2025  unless additional time is granted by Mrs. Sonja Williams.
  • Prior to starting  the Application, students should download and complete the  Otha Grimes Worksheet
  • For students:  Students should then download the Instructions before completing theApplication.
  • The Enrollment Key for Northwest Tech students is wh4mpn and it is to be entered in the big box on the first page of CTYOU.org labeled Enrollment Code.

Information needed in the past included:

  • All sources of financial aid income and scholarships. You may need to get this information from Mrs. Sonja Williams, Financial Aid Director.
  • The amount of tuition and fees for your program which is dependent on full time or part time status. Tuition and fees is listed on the NWTC website at https://nwtech.edu/student-services/financial-aid-tuition/ or looking at the Cost of Attendance information. Remember if you are a  full time student, you will divide the cost in half to get the cost for one semester. If you attend half day for two years, you will take the cost and divide by 4 to get the cost of one semester.
  • Mileage to and from the Alva Campus. There will be 90 days of instruction in the Fall 2024 semester for all students except those in Practical Nursing.  Practical Nursing students need to use estimates from Mrs. Williams if you are not on the Alva campus part of the semester.
    • The NWTC Alva Campus calendar is available at https://nwtech.edu/about-nwtc/calendars/.
    • You will have to calculate the number of miles you drive from home to the Alva Campus (1801 11th Street, Alva, OK) if you wish to submit mileage. Remember that is doubled if you drive to and from within a day. It is easiest to use Mapquest – https://www.mapquest.com/directions – to calculate this and then it is verified and not an estimate.
    • You will use the IRS Standard Mileage Rates for 2024 to calculate mileage which is currently $0.70 for 2025.  So you would take # of days x miles per day round trip x 0.70 to get the amount you are submitting for mileage (if you choose to include mileage).
  • Items you may consider including into the expenses section include daycare, rent, and any special clothing or equipment (but you must be able to provide proof of payment).
