Earlier this school year, Northwest Technology Center’s Board of Education accepted the retirement resignation of Dr. Gerald Harris, Superintendent effective June 30.
With 47 years of experience in education, Dr. Harris has worked at Northwest Technology Center for 25 years. He served as the Assistant Superintendent at the Alva Campus from 1985 until 2000, the Assistant Superintendent at the Fairview Campus from 2008 until 2012, and as the district’s Superintendent from 2012 to present. Dr. Harris and spouse, Jane plan to continue residing in the Fairview area.
“My career as an educator has spanned elementary schools, middle schools, high schools, Career & Technology Education, and higher education and has provided many rewarding experiences. Regardless of the ages of the students, my goal has always been to provide quality educational experiences and to assist students with being successful in life” stated Harris.
As a result of the retirement, an administrative transition at NWTC is currently underway. Daren Slater has been hired to succeed Harris as the Superintendent beginning July 1, and Jeremy Eaton has been hired as the Assistant Superintendent at the Alva Campus to replace Slater. Colt Shaw continues to serve as the Assistant Superintendent at the Fairview Campus.
Slater has more than 20 years of experience in Oklahoma’s CareerTech System. Prior to joining the NWTC staff in 2007, he worked as a Business and Industry Services Coordinator at Autry Technology Center. He had several years of experience as an Agricultural Education instructor at Holdenville. Slater graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1993. Slater and his wife, Tiffany live in Dacoma.
“I am honored to serve Northwest Technology Center as its superintendent.” said Slater. “I look forward to working with our staff to continue our record of service to northwest Oklahoma and our patrons and students.”
Jeremy Eaton was hired in April as the incoming Assistant Superintendent. Most recently, Eaton served as the Principal on The Catholic School of St. Eugene in Oklahoma City. He also has thirteen years of experience as the Director of Student Services at Autry Technology Center. Eaton is a 1994 graduate of Oklahoma State University with a degree in Agricultural Education.
According to Stan Kline, NWTC’s Board President, “The Board of Education feels confident that this transition will be smooth and that our new administrators will continue the high level of service currently provided to our school district.”
