Welding Technology – Fairview Campus


Northwest Technology Center’s Welding Technology program works with the American Welding Society (AWS) certification program. This certification is recognized nationally.   In addition to providing students with the skills to become certified, the program helps students develop the skills necessary to be successful in many manufacturing jobs.   Instructors will help students learn basic concepts and internships will provide practical training. This program covers many areas of the welding field.   Students will be engaged in hands- on training in the shop approximately 70% of the time. In the classroom, students will cover technical material on the fundamentals of welding, math and blueprint reading.

Structural  Welder Career Option

The Structural Welder Introduction career option covers fundamental of the SMAW welding process, plasma arc, air carbon arc, and oxy-fuel cutting processes, metal preparation and heat treatments, as well as, workforce staging. Students will be engaged in hands-on training in the shop approximately 70% of the time.

Structural and Pipe Welder Career Option

The Structural and Pipe Welder career option covers fundamental of SMAW, GMAW, & GTAW welding processes, plasma arc, air carbon arc, and oxy-fuel cutting processes, metal preparation and heat treatments, as well as, workforce staging, reading blueprints, and welding detail drawings. Students will be engaged in hands-on training in the shop approximately 70% of the time.

Fabrication Welder Career Option

The Fabrication Welder career option provides additional project-based learning opportunities using the fundamentals of SMAW, GMAW, & GTAW welding processes, plasma arc, air carbon arc, and oxy-fuel cutting processes, metal preparation and heat treatments, as well as, workforce staging, reading blueprints, and welding detail drawings.  Students will be engaged in hands-on training in the shop approximately 90% of the time.
