Auto Technology – Alva Campus


Northwest Technology Center’s Automotive Technology Program is a leader in the nationally recognized Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification program. The main areas of focus in the Automotive Technology program are to help students learn and diagnose problems in six areas of ASE certification. These areas include engine repair, engine performance, HVAC, suspension and steering, brakes and electrical systems. Learning the scientific concepts behind components and learning diagnostic and repair procedures are reinforced through classroom and lab instruction. The goal of the program is for students to master all aspects of modern, computer-based vehicle repair and diagnosis and to train for entry level employment in the automotive field.

Salary Range: $13.89/hour

Helpful Attributes and Abilities:

  • Reading, language and math skills at the 9th grade level or above
  • Basic computer literacy/skills
  • Ability to understand theory and technical information
  • Ability to read and comprehend textbook and shop manual
  • Ability to complete basic math problems
  • Good health, physical condition and manual dexterity
  • Ability to lift heavy objects and stand/work on your feet for extended periods of time
  • Endurance to work under adverse weather conditions
  • Good communication skills

Certifications/Credentials:  Students are eligible to test for the following ASE Student Certifications: Brakes, Engine Performance, Engine Repair, Steering and Suspension, Electrical and Electronic Systems, Automatic Transmission/Transaxle, Manual Drive Train and Axles, Heating and Air, Maintenance and Light Repair, WorkKeys and ODCTE Certifications.

Accreditations: NWTC is accredited by the Oklahoma State Department of Education and the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education. NWTC’s Auto Tech program is also accredited by ASE and NATEF.
