Scholarships

The following are some of the scholarship opportunities available to those who qualify.

Otha Grimes Scholarship

  • Otha Grimes Scholarship Application  – Do NOT complete the application in the browser window!!  Download the application, open it in Adobe Acrobat, rename the file, save it in your file folder on the hard drive and then complete the application. After completing the application and saving it, move the file to the Shared Folder I created for you on Google Drive.

Only adult students may apply for the Otha Grimes scholarship.  Adult students will need to visit Mrs. Williams, Financial Aid Director, or Ms. Flynt, Central Office Secretary, to get some of the financial information required to complete the application.

Beginning January 1, 2021, the standard mileage rates for the use of a car (van, pickup or panel truck) will be: 56 cents per mile ($0.56) for business miles driven.  The address for NWTC Alva Campus is 1801 11th Street, Alva, OK.  You may use mapquest.com to calculate your mileage to and from school each day.

Northwest Technology Center (NWTC) Foundation Scholarships

Each year a portion of the monies raised by the Foundation will go to support scholarships for deserving students. This financial assistance may include books, tuition, and other educational costs. The Foundation Scholarship committee assists in the establishment of scholarships and the selection of the recipients.

Adults, juniors and seniors may apply for the Spring NWTC Foundation Scholarships. Only adults may apply for the Fall NWTC Foundation Scholarships.  To claim the scholarship, students will be required to show that they are incurring some type of educational expense for either the current semester or next summer or fall.

Students may download the NWTC Foundation Scholarship application –  NWTC Foundation Scholarship Application 2020.  Do NOT complete the application in the browser window!!  Download the application, open it in Adobe Acrobat, rename the file, save it in your file folder on the hard drive and then complete the application. After completing the application and saving it, move the file to the Shared Folder I created for you on Google Drive.  Scholarship applications should be submitted to the front office by January 15.

According to the ACT Job Profiles Database, the following are some tasks performed by Practical Nurses:

  • Administer prescribed medications or start intravenous fluids, noting times and amounts on patients’ charts.
  • Observe patients, charting and reporting changes in patients’ conditions, such as adverse reactions to medication or treatment, and taking any necessary action.
  • Answer patients’ calls and determine how to assist them.
  • Measure and record patients’ vital signs, such as height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse, or respiration.
  • Provide basic patient care or treatments, such as taking temperatures or blood pressures, dressing wounds, treating bedsores, giving enemas or douches, rubbing with alcohol, massaging, or performing catheterizations.
  • Work as part of a healthcare team to assess patient needs, plan and modify care, and implement interventions.
  • Supervise nurses’ aides or assistants.
  • Evaluate nursing intervention outcomes, conferring with other healthcare team members as necessary.

  • Collect samples, such as blood, urine, or sputum from patients, and perform routine laboratory tests on samples.
  • Prepare patients for examinations, tests, or treatments and explain procedures.
  • Help patients with bathing, dressing, maintaining personal hygiene, moving in bed, or standing and walking.
  • Apply compresses, ice bags, or hot water bottles.
  • Sterilize equipment and supplies, using germicides, sterilizer, or autoclave.
  • Make appointments, keep records, or perform other clerical duties in doctors’ offices or clinics.
  • Provide medical treatment or personal care to patients in private home settings, such as cooking, keeping rooms orderly, seeing that patients are comfortable and in good spirits, or instructing family members in simple nursing tasks.
  • Set up equipment and prepare medical treatment rooms.
  • Prepare or examine food trays for conformance to prescribed diet.
  • Wash and dress bodies of deceased persons.
