Today will be scholarship application day!  We will only be working on completing scholarship applications.  Only juniors, seniors, and adults who wish to research and/or complete scholarship application(s) need to stay in Career Center today.

The following are some of the scholarship opportunities available to those who qualify.

Otha Grimes Scholarship

Only adult students may apply for the Otha Grimes scholarship.  Adult students will need to visit Mrs. Williams, Financial Aid Director, or Ms. Flynt, Central Office Secretary, to get some of the financial information required to complete the application.

Beginning January 1, 2021, the standard mileage rates for the use of a car (van, pickup or panel truck) will be: 56 cents per mile ($0.56) for business miles driven.  The address for NWTC Alva Campus is 1801 11th Street, Alva, OK.  You may use mapquest.com to calculate your mileage to and from school each day.

Northwest Technology Center (NWTC) Foundation Scholarships

Each year a portion of the monies raised by the Foundation will go to support scholarships for deserving students. This financial assistance may include books, tuition, and other educational costs. The Foundation Scholarship committee assists in the establishment of scholarships and the selection of the recipients.

Adults, juniors and seniors may apply for the Spring NWTC Foundation Scholarships. Only adults may apply for the Fall NWTC Foundation Scholarships.  To claim the scholarship, students will be required to show that they are incurring some type of educational expense for either the current semester or next summer or fall.

Students may download the NWTC Foundation Scholarship application –  NWTC Foundation Scholarship Application 2020.  Do NOT complete the application in the browser window!!  Download the application, open it in Adobe Acrobat, rename the file, save it in your file folder on the hard drive and then complete the application. After completing the application and saving it, move the file to the Shared Folder I created for you on Google Drive.  Scholarship applications should be submitted to the front office by January 15.

Northwest Tech Tuition Waiver

The NW Tech Tuition Waiver allows 75% of tuition costs to be waived for eligible students.  The student will be responsible for program fees as well as the remaining amount of tuition. In order to be eligible for the tuition waiver, adult students must either currently reside in the NWTC district OR have graduated from an in-district high school or have successfully completed a high school equivalency diploma, while residing in the NWTC district.The NW Tech Tuition Waiver can be used within 3 school years from the time of high school graduation or receiving the high school equivalency diploma.  The student may choose to attend NWTC half-time or full-time within the 3 school year timeframe.  The NW Tech Tuition Waiver can be used towards tuition for one Career Option within a daytime Career Program.  Waiver awards will vary depending upon the length of the Career Option chosen by the student. There is no dollar amount tied to this tuition waiver.  Recipients of the NW Tech Tuition Waiver are required to maintain a minimum grade of C (2.0 GPA) and minimum attendance of 90%.  To be considered for this award, an application for the NW Tech Tuition Waiver must be completed along with an application for enrollment and an official high school transcript or copy of high school equivalency diploma.  Students who receive a tuition waiver will still be able to apply for other financial aid.

Oklahoma Association for Minorities in Career & Technology Education (OAMCTE) Essay Contest

What a great opportunity for minority students to share their story about CareerTech! One of the goals of OAMCTE is to promote and encourage minority students to pursue training and careers in the Career and Technology Education system. Any high school junior or senior of a minority race who is currently enrolled in a Career and Technology Education class or program may participate in the essay writing contest.  One $250 award will be given to the winning entry.

The Casy Cundiff Scholarship

The Casy Cundiff Scholarship Sponsored by OkACTE Education Services/Special Populations (ESSP). The Oklahoma Association of Career and Technology Education (OkACTE)/Education Services Special Populations (ESSP) is offering a student the financial scholarship award to acknowledge the achievement of a career and technology student(s) who is a person with a disability and has overcome barriers to achieve his/her highest potential for success. The purpose for this student scholarship is to assist the student in accessing or completing a career and technology education career major or entering into the occupation for which he/she has trained. Up to 2 scholarship awards between $250 and $500 will be made depending upon funds available and number of scholarship awards presented. Scholarship awards must be used to assist with the cost of tuition, fees, books, tools, and/or other expenses connected to employment or training.

Washington/DuBose Memorial Scholarship

Applicants for the scholarship must plan to enroll in a full-time program at an Oklahoma Career and Technology Center or as a full- time student in an accredited institution of higher learning for the and spring semester of each year.

Oklahoma CareerTech Foundation Scholarships

Oklahoma Former NFL Players Association Scholarship

The Oklahoma Former NFL Players Association has been given the responsibility by the Professional Athletes Foundation (PAF) to award two $2,500 scholarships to Oklahoma High School Senior Athletes, one male and one female. This opportunity is open to any high school varsity athlete that attends a public or private high school in the state of Oklahoma. The PAF Scholarship rewards high school athletes for their non-athletic achievements and assists them in achieving their career goals. The PAF Scholarship is designed for any high school athlete who will attend a university, college or two-year institution and will not receive any type of athletic scholarship. All applications must be received by Jan. 31, 2021.

Ragland Family Foundation Scholarship

The purpose of the Ragland Family Education Foundation Scholarship Program is to provide financial assistance to Oklahoma students with limited educational funding who want to obtain a college degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM)*. The scholarship program intends to grant up to $20,000 each in scholarship awards to qualified and deserving students in 2021.  Awards will be announced in May 2021. To date, the scholarship program has awarded $200,000 in grants to students in Oklahoma.  Application deadline is March 15, 2021.

Indian Health Services Scholarship

Indian Health Services offers scholarships for several health profession undergraduate and graduate programs for students beginning as early as their sophomore year of Pre-Nursing, enrolled in a bachelors degree granting program or above.  Students do not need to be admitted to a program in order to apply/be awarded the scholarship. However, by the beginning of the Fall semester, students will need to be admitted to a program in order to begin receiving IHS funding.

The IHS Scholarship Program pays for tuition and required fees (calculated by the educational institution) directly applicable to a students approved curriculum and scholarship requirements. Required fees include lab, health unit, and parking permit fees. Additionally, IHS supports all scholarship recipients with a monthly stipend covering reasonable living expenses. Health Professions scholarship recipients will receive the stipend for a 12-month period, while Preparatory and Pre-Graduate scholarship recipients will receive the stipend for 10 months.

IHS will also pay for required books, laboratory expenses, dental/medical/optometric/etc. equipment and other miscellaneous educational expenses. Scholarship recipients receive a one-time payment for tutorial services or licensure/board certification preparatory classes, travel expenses to assist with travel to and from school for the year, and the rental of a Post office box.

Please be aware that the scholarships have been limited to Juniors and Seniors in undergraduate school with the exception of Sophomores going into a Pre-Nursing degree track and above.

To qualify for a Health Professions scholarship, applicants must also meet specific eligibility requirements by the start of the academic year for which the scholarship is awarded:

  •  Have a minimum GPA of 2.0.
  • Capable of completing a health profession degree program.
  • Committed to serving Indian people as a health professional in your chosen specialty.
  • Be willing to sign an Indian Health Service Scholarship Program Contract (IHS-818) agreeing to a minimum two-year service commitment to practice at an Indian health facility upon completion of your academic and/or post-graduate training.

I would recommend interested students read the handbook to familiarize themselves with the application process for the future. The 2021 – 2022 scholarship application is currently open and must be submitted as well as any required supporting documents, submitted electronically to the application, no later than February 28, 2021 by 7 pm EDT.   Once a student is ready to apply, they should visit https://www.ihs.gov/scholarship/apply/ and select the big green “Apply Now” button. This will take the applicant to the online application portal.

Fundera College Scholarship

Today, Fundera’s commitment to helping aspiring entrepreneurs while raising awareness about small business issues is stronger than ever. We are proud to introduce the Fundera College Scholarship, designed to help young entrepreneurs afford the rising cost of education. Fundera will award $2,000 for the best entry every semester. National Ag Day Essay Contest

Students across the country are invited to enter the National Ag Day essay and video contest, sponsored by the Agriculture Council of America. This year’s theme is, “Food Brings Everyone to the Table.  How is agriculture essential to bringing food to the table?” National Ag Day’s objective is to celebrate agriculture and to help consumers better understand how farmers and the companies serving them produce abundant, healthy, nutritious, and safe food that nourishes our families and consumers around the world.

The 2020 Ag Day Essay Contest is divided into two categories of competition: written essay and video essay. Both are national competitions. All entries must be received at the Agriculture Council of America office by midnight CST, January 31, 2021. (JCI) Senate Foundation Grants

Each year, the U.S. Junior Chamber International (JCI) Senate Foundation grants $1,000 scholarships to graduating high school seniors who plan to continue their education at accredited post-secondary colleges, universities or vocational schools. The number of grants awarded annually is at the discretion of the Foundation and must be used for educational expenses in the first year of full-time study. Checks awarded will be made out in the name of the recipient and the educational institution of the recipient’s choice.

The Scholarship program for 2020-2021 is now open.  For questions regarding the Scholarship Program, please contact the Chairman or Contact from your State listed below or Sheri Menendez via email at scholarship@usjcisenate.org . Your application must be postmarked no later than January 22, 2021 to the State Scholarship Chairman listed under your state.

Automotive AfterMarket Scholarship

Thinking about an automotive aftermarket career? Good choice! Servicing or supplying parts for vehicle maintenance and repair can be a rewarding career. An automotive scholarship can help pave the way. Scholarships are available for full time students attending a US or Canadian college or ASE/NATEF certified post secondary school for automotive, heavy duty or collision repair technicians.

The University of the Aftermarket Foundation and more than 30 additional organizations award automotive scholarships. Apply on-line here. Your one complete on-line application will automatically be considered by every organization where you meet their qualifications. More than 3,500 scholarships have been awarded by UAF and all the collaborating organizations since 1998.

Porch Scholarship

Porch is very passionate about helping students achieve higher education. Growing demand and lack of qualified workers in skilled trades and technology means it’s a great time to go back to school and enter these lucrative and fast-growing industries. To help keep up with demand and assist the next generation of professionals, Porch will award a $2,000 scholarship four times a year to eligible students. The $2,000 scholarship occurs four times a year and is open to high school seniors and current college students.

Our application dates are as follows:

* Spring Contest Cycle: April 17 – July 17 of each year.
* Summer Contest Cycle: July 18 – October 14 of each year.
* Fall Contest Cycle: October 15 – January 15 of the following year.
* Winter Contest Cycle: January 16 – April 16 of each year

CCOSA and OSAG Scholarship

CCOSA is pleased to partner with Oklahoma School Assurance Group (OSAG) for a new student scholarship opportunity. This new scholarship is for senior students whose parents/guardians are employees of OSAG member districts. (See Mrs. Williams if you have questions about eligibility.)

Criteria:
  • Senior student whose parent/guardian is an employee of an OSAG member district
  • Senior students will be eligible to receive only one scholarship from CCOSA and OSAG scholarship opportunities.
The timelines for submission are:
  • December 1, 2020 – Applications available below and on the CCOSA website.
  • March 1, 2021 – Deadline for submitting scholarship applications
  • May (1st Week), 2021 – Notification of winners
  • June (2nd Week), 2021 – Student winners recognized at CCOSA Summer Leadership Conference

I Have a Dream Scholarship

Let your dreams be your muse – and your ticket to free money for school. One “dreamer” in our I Have a Dream Scholarship Scholarship will receive $1,500 to help make his or her educational dream come true.

Applicants must be 14 years of age or older at time of application. Must be a legal U.S. resident. Must be a resident of one of the 50 United States or the District of Columbia. This award is for U.S. students.

OROS Scholarship

In recognition of the tremendous efforts put forth by Oklahoma’s rural schools to provide their students with quality education in an ever-changing environment, it is with pleasure that the Organization of Rural Oklahoma Schools (OROS) announces the implementation of an annual scholarship and new this year is “The Perry Willis Scholarship” financed by Mass Group Marketing.
